How to Have the Best Virginia Family Photography Session

Having been in business as a northern virginia family photographer for 7 years, I know there a few key things that will make your family photography session go smoothly. Being present at your session, focusing on the experience the kids are having, letting them play, and staying connected through touch are some of the topics I will point out.

Let go of your stress from the day

Whatever happens in the car, stays in the car. If you were chatting about your work emails or the brand new soccer game schedule or when the kids will get their homework done, it can all stay in the car! We want positive vibes from you and the kids (remember: kids know all your feelings whether you think you’re hiding them or not!) so everyone can have a good time.

Our goal is for the kids to play

We are aiming for everyone to relax (mostly the parents because, again, the kids read all our vibes!) and play together. This is for older kids too as I rely on the parents to know all the kids quirks and jokes that work. We want true smiles and personalities to have space to shine.

Don’t worry about perfection

My website touts “Forget perfect – let’s capture real” all over the pages. I sincerely believe when you don’t worry about what the end image will look like, then I can step in and make images you will treasure and love. Don’t worry about flyaways or baby drool or grass-stained knees or upset kiddos. Together, we can turn their mood around to get lovely pictures.

Create an experience

Here’s the deal: the experience you have during the photo session will forever be attached to the images you receive. I have personally had a not-so-great photo session and after I received the gallery I had no desire to do anything with the photos other than a Christmas card. How you FEEL during the session is paramount to everything else. And your job as parents is to set the tone for chill vibes with smiles and games and whatever your kid/s needs.

Family photographer secret: Stay connected through touch

Here is my last secret: hands are so important! The physical connection in your session translates to love and emotion in your gallery. Not only does this emotional connection show in a hand holding or shoulder touch or face caress, but in your faces it shines brightest. I will constantly be reminding you to keep that physical connection there during your session.
