Old Town Alexandria family session | Alexandria, VA Family and Senior Photographer
You guys, this was my first ever Old Town session. I know, I know, I can’t believe it either. I just never had a request for it and I never made it happen. Well, I am kicking myself now for not making it happen! Trying something new – location, lens, time of day – is always a little intimidating. But you know what I’ve learned every time I do something I am not super comfortable with? That I enjoy it! At this point in my career I enjoy the challenge, I like the change of pace, switching it up. Now I just want to do so many sessions here. I can’t wait to see what it looks like in Fall.
And yes, I HAVE lived in Northern Virginia for 26 years and I know Old Town well. My husband used to work at Union Street Pub in fact! But knowing which French restaurant to go to for a fancy evening out (La Refuge is oh so good), stopping in the Torpedo Factory with my kids, and knowing the best place for an affogato, is not necessarily the same as knowing the best place for photos. And with social distancing in place, I wanted to make sure we wouldn’t be walking along any crowded streets. I scouted it out before the session and found a nice little section of town away from the hustle and bustle of King St.
This is my second time photographing this amazing family. We chatted about breweries, school, summer plans that happened, summer plans that had to be cancelled, and about their new puppy. There was a nice breeze as we walked around and found little nooks and alleys of the town. I love city sessions because it’s full of surprises. You never know what freshly-painted door there will be or seasonal decorations that may be up.
Bring on the Old Town sessions, I can’t wait!
